Ladner Village is one of the best-preserved heritage village centres in Metro Vancouver — a genuine early-1900s farming community that survived the suburbanization pressures of the late 20th century largely intact. Founded in the 1860s by the Ladner brothers (fishing and farming pioneers from Cornwall), the village still has its original grid of storefronts around Delta Street and 48th Avenue, anchored by the Ladner Clock Tower and the Delta Museum and Archives (housed in the 1912 former municipal hall).
The village works as a half-day visit. Start at the Clock Tower and walk the four-block heritage core: the Delta Museum has genuinely good exhibits on the Ladner family, early Fraser River fishing, and the region's farming history; independent bookstores and cafés line the streets; and the Saturday Ladner Farmers Market (May–October) on the Memorial Park grounds is one of the best in the Lower Mainland. Restaurants range from a classic 1960s diner (Stir Coffee House) to a genuinely excellent Indian dining room on Delta Street.
Five minutes west of the village, Captain's Cove Marina on the Fraser River's south arm is one of the largest recreational marinas in Metro Vancouver — 400+ boat slips, a working fuel dock, and a public walking path along the riverfront. The view across the river from the marina toward Annacis Island and Burnaby Mountain is genuinely one of the best Fraser-waterfront views in the region. For a half-day escape from the urban core, Ladner Village plus the marina is one of the most underrated day trips in Metro Vancouver.
How to get there
By car, take Highway 17 to the Ladner Trunk Road exit and follow to Delta Street. By transit, the 601 bus from Bridgeport Canada Line stops at Ladner Exchange — about 35 minutes. Captain's Cove Marina is a 10-minute walk or 3-minute drive west of the village.
